Pavel Stodůlka participates in the development of a laser with a robotic arm

For the first time in history, this technology assisted in cataract surgery at the Gemini Eye Clinic in Zlín in 2019. The laser with a robotic arm is characterized, among other things, by the high speed of individual steps during the surgery. At present, the laser is used only in two specialized centers in the world - in France and in the Czech Republic.

"The key technical feature is the multiplication of the laser beam foci. In the spot where the laser strikes the lens, there are six, nine, or more foci instead of one focus, common with current lasers. As a result, the laser is many times faster than current lasers used for eye surgery. The advantage is also in the advanced function allowing the use of various energy in different parts of the lens, which is not only effective, but the procedure becomes more gentle," said Pavel Stodůlka, chief surgeon and president of the Gemini Eye Clinic in Zlín.
